The Growing Trend of Stay-At-Home Dads and their New Role as Caregivers

In 2023, Pew Research revealed nearly one in five “stay-at-home parents” are men, so fathers “now represent 18% of stay-at-home parents, up from 11% in 1989.” Although there is still a significant difference compared to the number of stay-at-moms, it shows society is expanding its perception of the topic.

Fatherhood isn’t what it used to be. Gone are the days when being a dad was all about bringing home the bacon while mom managed the household. Today’s father is showing up beyond a paycheck. He’s wiping noses, packing lunches, helping with homework, and staying at home full-time.

He’s a nurturer, caregiver, teacher, and emotional anchor. More and more men are stepping into the role of stay-at-home dads.

What’s driving this shift?

A big part of it comes down to breaking free from outdated gender roles. Stay-at-home dads are challenging the idea that caregiving is a woman’s job and proving that love, patience, and empathy aren’t gendered traits.

There’s a more personal reqard, many stay-at-home fathers report experiencing emotional growth. They’re forming tighter bonds with their children, embracing vulnerability, and discovering a version of masculinity that’s rooted in emotional connection.

And let’s not forget the bigger picture. When dads take on the primary caregiving role, it creates a more balanced partnership at home and a powerful example for kids.

Let’s celebrate the role of dad as a caregiver this Father’s Day. Since he is the family caregiver, he also needs everything on hand needed to make timely healthcare decisions. This Father’s Day why not give him a gift that children both appreciate, the TAT-2000C. Since he is also the caregiver, he needs to have everything to keep his children healthy. This thermometer is a game-changer for family health. It is designed for home use and offers quick, non-invasive, and accurate temperature readings.

Why the TAT-2000C?

Getting a child to stay still for a temperature reading can be challenging, and traditional methods like oral, rectal, or underarm thermometers often lead to discomfort or frustration. The Exergen TAT-2000C uses infrared technology to measure the temperature of the blood flowing through the temporal artery in the forehead, a method that is not only accurate but also gentle.
