For the second consecutive year, the Exergen temporal artery thermometer outsold all other brands at retailers nationwide which stock the product, according to Nielsen and Information Resources Inc. (IRI) data. Sales of all types of thermometers, including national brands and private label products, were compared. Along with outselling other brands, the Exergen TemporalScanner™ market share has risen to 20 percent of all thermometers for the last two years in retailers stocking Exergen and competing brands.
“We developed temporal artery thermometry to satisfy the need for a quick, accurate and non-invasive method to measure temperature, and we are pleased to see that consumers are embracing it,” said Dr. Francesco Pompei, CEO of Exergen Corporation. “Over 30 published studies have confirmed its accuracy and ease of use across all ages and clinical settings, with thousands of healthcare facilities using the professional TemporalScanner as the standard for thermometry over rectal, ear or oral thermometers.
The Exergen TemporalScanner is sold in Walmart, Walgreens, Target, Babies R Us, Toys R Us and in warehouse club stores including Costco, Sam’s Club and BJ’s Wholesale Club. These retailers account for approximately 80 percent of the retail market for thermometers.
