World Prematurity Day 2025: Call to Protect Our Smallest Fighters

World Prematurity Day began as a movement led by families and healthcare professionals to raise awareness about the challenges of preterm birth. This year, on November 17, 2025, the World Health Organization officially recognizes World Prematurity Day for the first time. This milestone recognizes decades of advocacy. It underscores the importance of addressing preterm birth, which remains a leading cause of death among children under five.

Preterm infants are particularly vulnerable to infections, making early fever detection critical in improved health outcomes. Our advanced infrared technology allows Exergen thermometers to gently scan the forehead over the temporal artery to deliver an accurate, non-invasive temperature reading even for the tiniest patients. That’s why Exergen’s TAT-2000C Temporal Artery Thermometer and TempoTherm are trusted in neonatal and family care settings.

A study published in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Gynecologic, Neonatal Nursing found that Temporal Artery Thermometry is as accurate as axillary temperature measurements in low-birth-weight neonates in the NICU. Conducted across a Level III NICU in the Central/Southeastern United States, the study also revealed that nurses spent less time measuring temperatures with temporal thermometers, and infants experienced fewer noxious stimuli contributing to improved prognoses.

This World Prematurity Day, Exergen remains committed to innovation, education, and global advocacy. Because a healthy beginning isn’t just a goal, it’s the foundation of a hopeful future.
