Every year on May 12th, the world celebrates International Nurses Day (IND), marking the birthday of Florence Nightingale and honoring the incredible work of nurses worldwide. IND is not just about recognition; it’s also a moment to reflect on the challenges nurses face and offer real solutions.
This year, the International Council of Nurses (ICN) announced a powerful 2025 theme: “Caring for nurses strengthens economies.” This is a continuation of their “Our Nurses, Our Future,” message which aims to raise the profile of the profession and spotlight its vital role in healthcare systems.
ICN President Dr Pamela Cipriano said, “When nurses are supported physically, mentally, and emotionally, everyone benefits. Nurses face numerous challenges and it’s imperative we promote their overall health. This year’s theme offers a chance to introduce real solutions that improve nurses’ lives and, by extension, the care they provide.”
How you can celebrate nurses:
- Express Gratitude: Send thank-you notes or messages to nurses or colleagues to acknowledge their dedication and impact
- Advocate: Engage in advocacy for policies that support nurses’ wellbeing and improve healthcare systems Because at the end of the day, healthy nurses mean healthier communities and stronger economies too.
“Today we celebrate International Nurses Day. We honor the incredible contributions of nurses across the world! From the steadyfast care they provide to the invaluable support they offer, nurses are the heart of our healthcare systems,” said Dr. Marybeth Pompei Senior Vice President & Clinical Scientist of Exergen. “As a former nurse I understand their role in healthcare and their daily challenges. We designed the Exergen Temporal Artery Thermometers to improve nurse’s lives and help them deliver healthy outcomes for all patients.”
One way to improve a nurses’ life is to give them access to tools that improve their lives like Exergen’s Temporal Artery Thermometer (TAT). It uses infrared technology to detect the heat naturally emitting from the skin surface on the forehead while measuring the blood which flows through the temporal artery on the forehead which is positioned 2 mm below the skin. In addition, this method incorporates a patented arterial heat balance system to automatically account for the effects of ambient temperature on the skin. It is clinically accurate, very easy to use, non-invasive, very cost efficient and improves productivity.
