| Boston, MA, December 19, 2001 - Exergen Corporation, the industry's leading innovator of infrared medical thermometers for professional and consumer use, today announced that the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center, Bethesda, MD, selected its new series of TemporalScanner infrared thermometry for standardization throughout the Center. |

| The TemporalScanner is a fast, non-invasive method of taking body temperature by gently swiping the thermometer across the forehead. Recent studies by Harvard Medical School (Boston, MA) and Hospital for Sick Children (Toronto, ONT) physicians have proven it to be more accurate than ear thermometry and as least as accurate as rectal thermometry.
