National Institutes of Health (NIH) Clinical Center Selects Exergen TemporalScannerT IR Thermometry System
Wednesday January 2, 9:30 am Eastern Time Press Release
Boston, MA, December 19, 2001 - Exergen Corporation, the industry's leading innovator of infrared medical thermometers for professional and consumer use, today announced that the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center, Bethesda, MD, selected its new series of TemporalScanner infrared thermometry for standardization throughout the Center.
The world's largest hospital devoted solely to research, the NIH Clinical Center is the hospital and clinics at the National Institutes of Health. Undergoing a time of tremendous growth and expansion, an adjacent facility, slated for completion in 2002, will house new inpatient hospital units, outpatient clinics, day hospitals and research labs, providing the environment necessary to expand the frontlines of medical discovery. Over the years, NIH has supported the work of 76 Nobel Prize winners.
The TemporalScanner is a fast, non-invasive method of taking body temperature by gently swiping the thermometer across the forehead. Recent studies by Harvard Medical School (Boston, MA) and Hospital for Sick Children (Toronto, ONT) physicians have proven it to be more accurate than ear thermometry and as least as accurate as rectal thermometry. It is protected by 20 U.S. and foreign patents. Further descriptions and clinical information are available at www.exergen.com.
The TemporalScanner is distributed nationwide to acute-care hospitals solely by Owens & Minor, the nation's leading distributor of national name brand medical/surgical supplies. Owens & Minor distributes a wide range of medical/surgical products, and views this new technology as a strong addition to its product mix. Owens & Minor is known as a technology leader in healthcare distribution and views this new medical technology as an exciting development for its customers nationwide.
