Exergen and McKesson Partner to Promote Temporal Artery Thermometer
Boston, MA, February 6, 2003- Exergen Corporation, the industry's leading innovator of infrared medical thermometers for professional and home use, today announced that its flagship TAT-5000 TemporalScanner temporal artery thermometer is being promoted by the McKesson Medical-Surgical sales organization to the professional health care market. In addition to its speed and accuracy, the TAT-5000 saves up to 90% of thermometry costs because it does not require disposable covers, an important benefit for McKesson's customers.
A unit of the $50 billion sales McKesson Corporation, McKesson Medical-Surgical is the only national distributor serving the entire health care continuum - hospitals, physician offices, long-term care, and home care - and is the nation's leading distributor to the integrated health care market. They are the leading distributor to physicians' offices, clinics, and surgery centers, and the leading distributor to nursing homes and the home care market. They are also one of the largest suppliers to hospitals. The TemporalScanner is a fast, accurate, non-invasive method of taking temperatures by gently scanning the forehead over the temporal artery. Studies at Boston Children's Hospital and Harvard Medical School have proven that Exergen's temporal artery thermometer is more accurate than ear thermometry1 and more accurate than rectal thermometer in responding to change in fever2 ;as accurate as a pulmonary artery catheter by a study at the Massachusetts General Hospital3 ; found to be "a rapid, noninvasive screening tool for detection of rectal fever"4 by a study by physicians at Johns Hopkins Hospital and School of Medicine; and found to be indispensable for pediatric practice use in a recent 2300 patient study5 by Children's Hospital Medical Center of Akron. Further descriptions and clinical information are available at www.exergen.com.Exergen Corporation is world leader in the science and technology of non-invasive thermometry systems. Developed by a team led by Dr. Francesco Pompei, President, the temporal artery thermometers are protected by 20 US and foreign patents.
