Boston, MA, August 19, 2002-A recently published study2
by physicians and researchers at Johns Hopkins Hospital and School
of Medicine (Baltimore, MD) of 275 children aged 0 to 24 months stated:
"we found that the TemporalScanner thermometer performed well as a rapid,
noninvasive screening tool for detection of rectal fever." In addition,
they compared the results between nurses using the professional version and
parents using the home version of the TemporalScanner, and reported: "These
findings suggest that TemporalScanner thermometers should perform equally well
in the home and office settings." Further, the authors concluded from their
investigation that "agreement of ear with rectal temperatures and sensitivity
of ear temperatures to detect rectal fever were repeatedly found to be too poor
for safe clinical use." As a result of their findings, the research team
selected the TemporalScanner for use in a new vaccine trial in which temperatures
were to be taken frequently by parents at home, as well as to be in daily use
in their clinics.
The world-renowned Johns Hopkins Hospital is ranked by U.S. News and
World Report as the No. 1 Best Hospital in America. Its affiliated
Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine is ranked No. 2 Best Medical
School.
The TemporalScanner is a fast, non-invasive method of taking temperatures by gently scanning the thermometer across the forehead over the temporal artery. Studies at Boston Children's Hospital (No. 1 Best Hospital in Pediatrics) and Harvard Medical School (No. 1 Best Medical School) have proven that Exergen's TemporalScanner is more accurate than ear thermometry and more accurate than rectal thermometer in responding to change in fever; as accurate as a pulmonary artery catheter by a study at the Massachusetts General Hospital (No. 3 Best Hospital); and consistent with rectal temperatures by a study at Children's Hospital and Medical Center of Akron. Exergen Corporation is world leader in the science and technology of non-invasive
thermometry systems. Developed by a team led by Dr. Francesco Pompei, President,
the TemporalScanner is protected by 20 US and foreign patents.
