| May 8, 2000 - Exergen's New Waterless Printing Temperature Sensor Improves Product Quality and Increases Printing Speed |
 |
This unique, new temperature sensor uses non-contact infrared thermocouple technology to measure and control the roller cooling system used in the waterless printing process. Inaccurate roller temperature measurement can result in toning, piling, and dot gain problems. |
|
With a measurement range of 0oC to100 oC and a repeatability error of less than 0.01 oC, the IRt/c-WP sensor is designed and calibrated for accurate and reproducible results under real world printing conditions.
A low cost, low maintenance, and rugged system, the IRt/c-WP is hermetically sealed in a stainless steel housing. Unlike other temperature sensors, this Infrared Thermocouple can measure the ink temperature across the printer roller, as well as the roller temperature. With an optimum measurement range of 15 oC to 50 oC, use this sensor within an ambient temperature range of 0 oC to 100 oC, with an optimum ambient range of 20oC to 50 oC.
An in-line transmitter permits interface to an existing PLC, computer or controller input. By implementing Exergen's exclusive Speed Boost Equationä one obtains accurate, automatic adjustment to the roller cooling system, resulting in consistent heat balance on the roller surface. Accurate temperature control maintains proper ink viscosity, improving product quality. Optimizing roller temperature reduces press adjustment down time, thereby increasing printing speed and throughputs.
List price of the IRt/c-WP sensor is US$225, while the transmitter is US$119. Delivery is immediate.
Exergen Corporation of Watertown, MA, a leading manufacturer of infrared sensing systems, offers IRt/cä Infrared Thermocouple sensors for continuous temperature control applications. Relied upon by industry, these products perform many fast, accurate, and non-invasive temperature measurements at process critical control points. Recently, Exergen applied this technology, as well as its Arterial Heat Balance technology, to produce the SensorTouchä, a major breakthrough in consumer-level IR thermometers. With over 300 models, the IRt/c is an industry standard in such diverse applications as printing, packaging, climate control, and medicine. Exergen's commitment to innovative temperature control technology continues to help customers meet their company's profit requirements.
